S. Yizhar (1916-2006) was an innovator of modern Hebrew literature. Born in Rehovot to a family of writers, his work is characterized by a unique use of language that combines literary Hebrew with street jargon. While he worked as a professor of education and served as a Member of Knesset he published many works, including novels, novellas, short stories and children’s books.
